Google has purchased SocialDeck, a company that develops games and application for smartphones.
According to SocialDeck’s website, the search engine giant has acquired them and they have joined the Google team. Google’s move seems to imply that the company is serious about making and providing Internet users a gaming platform that will dominate the online gaming industry.
SocialDeck’s progressive approach to the distribution and development of their applications may have been the reason why Google decided to acquire them. The company has released games and applications for smartphones like the Apple iPhone and RIM’s BlackBerry. The company also developed and integrated games for the popular social networking website Facebook.
With the use of their social gaming platform technology, simultaneous game play in mobile devices and social networking websites are possible. Wendy Rozeluk, spokesperson for Google’s branch in Canada told the Canadian Press that SocialDeck’s technology and the team that comprises the company is a wonderful addition to the engineers currently working in Google’s headquarters in Waterloo, .
With the massive number of gaming developers and publishers in the market, why did Google choose SocialDeck? It could be because of the startup’s mobile offerings. SocialDeck was founded in 2008 with the vision of enabling “anywhere, anytime, anyone” gaming. The company has launched several titles for the iPhone, Facebook, and BlackBerry using its social gaming platform technology, which enables simultaneous game play across multiple mobile devices and social networks.
According to SocialDeck’s blog, they have reached one million mobile downloads in 2009, due to their “Shake & Spell” game. Google knows this fact, which is the reason why they purchased the company for its promising success in the mobile and casual gaming industry. SocialDeck will be a key component in Google’s effort of launching Google Games.
