The Apple Scrapple Festival is an event held annually during the second weekend in October in Bridgeville, Delaware, a small town in Sussex County. Events start on Thursday with local’s night(carnival only) and the Miss/Little Miss Apple Scrapple Pagent held at Woodbridge High School. The festival officially begins Friday night with the opening ceremony, carnival, food court and street dance. Saturday morning starts out with an all you can eat scrapple breakfast. Other activities include kids’ games, scrapple chunkin, scrapple carving, live entertainment, carnival rides, a car show, tractor pull, a health and safety fair, trade show, craft shows, ride in motorcycle show, a 5k jog, and tattoo contests. There is a Mayor’s Scrapple Sling where mayors and presidents of the town councils from across Sussex County come to compete for the title “King of Sling” by throwing a package of scrapple the farthest. When you get hungry the food court has apple fritters, scrapple sandwiches, crabcake sandwiches, oyster sandwiches, hamburgers and hotdogs, barbecue beef sandwiches, boardwalk fries, apple dumplings, ice cream and more. There are also live bands playing bluegrass, country, rock, and soul music. Don’t forget to look out for the Apple Scrapple Festival Mascot, Porker the Pig! This is a very fun festival.
