HTC: One S coating problem is limited, you can return the phone

A couple of days ago there were some complaints that the ceramic finish on the black HTC One S for some users got inexplicably damaged. HTC has looked into the problem and says the issue is isolated to a few units.

Here's the full quote from HTC:

HTC is committed to delivering a high quality product and great experience for all our customers. There have been a few, isolated reports of this issue. The finish on the One S was laboratory tested as being at a hardness similar to ceramic. While that's hard, it doesn't mean it's impossible to damage. Regardless, HTC takes quality very seriously and are providing all customers with an immediate fix and we are implementing some small changes to ensure customers do not experience this issue in the future.

The "immediate fix" is not quite a fix - you just go back to the store where you got your One S and get a replacement unit. This should be within the DOA period - after that, they'll fix it under what's covered by the phone's warranty.

Blackberry Bekas Laris Diburu Konsumen

Pasar BlackBerry di Indonesia tercatat masih sangat besar. Tak heran jika RIM (Research in Motion) menganggap negeri ini sebagai sebagai ladang mengeruk keuntungan, pasar potensial. Bahkan belum lama ini produsen BlackBerry tersebut membangun BlackBerry Store di mal Gandaria City-Jakarta, yang tercatat terbesar di Asia, dimana bekerjasama dengan distributor TAM.

Pesona perangkat BlackBery bagi konsumen, baik remaja hingga dewasa terutama terletak pada fasilitas BBM (BlackBerry Messenger) dan push email. Untuk fasilitas ini tercatat banyak vendor coba mengekor, meski hasilnya belum terlihat maksimal. Malahan, saat booming-nya BlackBerry di pasaran beberapa ponsel merk lokal coba menjiplak disainnya untuk menggaet segmen low-end, yang sekaligus mengkombinasikannya dengan fitur khas ponsel Cina (sebutan umum ponsel lokal) dual slot kartu SIM (dual on).

Kini meski tren ponsel beralih ke model Android, permintaan pasar akan ponsel BlackBerry pun terhitung masih tinggi. Memang banyak seri baru ditawarkan RIM, namun banderolnya masih dirasa cukup tinggi hingga konsumennya pun terbatas. Sebagai gambaran, mayoritas pengguna BlackBerry di Indonesia masih sebatas membutuhkan akses chatting, social media dan BBM saja dari perangkatnya. Belum memerlukan fitur-fitur canggih yang disodorkan perangkat BlackBerry terkini.

Alhasil, banyak calon penikmat BlackBerry memburu BlackBerry dengan banderol terjangkau, tak terkecuali kondisi bekas pakai (seken). Hal ini dikuatkan dengan pernyataan salah satu pedagang di salah satu toko di ITC Roxy Mas Jakarta,”hp pakai sistem operasi banyak, tapi BlackBerry tetap ada penikmatnya sendiri dan dari segi penjualan masih tergolong laku”, demikian ujarnya.

Kembali menurut pedagang, ponsel BlackBerry (kondisi baru) memang banderolnya cenderung menurun. Namun, bisa dikatakan tetap dapat bertahan kuat beberapa waktu ke depan karena memiliki fitur yang belum ada di sistem operasi lain. Maka permintaannya pun masih relatif besar.

Banyak konsumen lebih suka berburu BlackBerry seken, karena selain harga jauh lebih murah, fitur-fitur yang ada pun dirasa tetap sama seperti versi baru. Beberapa type yang laris dicari calon konsumen yakni tipe BlackBery Gemini (Curve 8520), BlackBerry Onyx dan Onyx 2 (9700 dan 9780), BlackBerry Curve 3G 9300, BlackBerry Pearl 3G 9105 serta BlackBerry Torch 9800. Untuk harga berturut-turut ada di kisaran Rp 1.15 juta, Rp 2.05 juta, Rp 3 juta, Rp 1.75 juta, Rp 1.65 juta dan Rp 3.1 jutaan.

Bahkan demi mendapatkan produk yang lebih murah, BlackBerry kondisi bekas pakai tersebut pun dicari yang eks garansi distributor, bukan eks garansi resmi. Selisihnya lumayan, yang bisa mencapai 100 ribuan, hingga lebih ramah di kantong. Tak terkecuali kondisi batangan alias hanya unit dan charger, tanpa dus dan kelengkapan lain (tetap garansi toko, misal 7 hari atau 1 bulan), yang bisa jauh lebih murah lagi, dengan fungsi yang sama.

Setidaknya itulah beberapa tipe BlackBerry yang menurut pantauan PULSAonline di pasaran masih banyak diburu konsumen, terutama yang memiliki budget pas-pasan. Bagaimana dengan Anda, pilih baru atau seken? Atau malah pilih smartphone lain, Android atau Windows Phone misalnya? Pastinya sesuai selera dan kebutuhan.

Nokia Lumia 1000: Windows 8, Kamera 41 MP PureView, QWERTY

Sebagaimana diinformasikan sebelumnya, Nokia berjanji bahwa teknologi PureView nantinya juga akan disertakan untuk ponsel Windows Phone kreasinya di masa yang akan datang.

Nah, terkait dengan itu, ternyata sebuah konsep ponsel Windows Phone masa depan, bernama Nokia Lumia 1000 itu telah diposting oleh situs Concept-phones.

Dari informasi yang tersaji dikatakan bahwa perangkat tersebut akan menjalankan sistem operasi Windows 8 dan akan dibekali kamera 41 MP PureView seperti yang kini tersemat pada Nokia 808 Pure View.

Beberapa spesifikasi lainnya yang sempat terungkap termasuk prosesor Intel ATOM Z2580 dual core 1.8 GHz, PowerVR SGX 544MP2 GPU533 MHz, dan layar AMOLED 4.3 inch beresolusi 1024 x 768 pixel. Fasilitas penting seperti slot kartu microSD, memori internal berkapasitas 64 GB, RAM 2 GB, serta kamera sekunder sekelas VGA dengan kemampuan merekam video dengan kecepatan 30 fps juga disebut-sebut melengkapi Lumia 1000.

Smartphone yang disebut masih berupa konsep itu juga akan menawarkan NFC, USB 3.0 on the go, accelerometer, proximity sensor, kompas, stereo FM radio, infrared, Bluetooth, WiFI, GPS dan sebuah keyboard QWERTY yang dilengkapi dengan joystick TV.

Samsung Galaxy SII Langka di Pasaran

Meski sudah lebih dari setengah tahun Samsung Galaxy SII meluncur di pasar Indonesia, popularitasnya hingga kini belum lah surut. Smartphone Android ini merupakan ponsel premium, dengan prosesor dual core plus layar 4,3 inci. Fiturnya canggih hingga mampu memikat konsumen.

Kepopuleran Galaxy S II bukanlah omong kosong belaka. Hingga Februari lalu ponsel ini telah terjual hingga lebih dari 20 juta unit di seluruh penjuru dunia, sejak kemunculannya pertama kali di pasaran global pada April 2011.

Untuk pasar Indonesia, Samsung Galaxy S II ini pun terbilang sukses di pasaran. Uniknya, berdasarkan pantauan PULSAonline (Selasa 27/03/2012) diketahui ponsel ini langka di pasaran, dimana sulit dijumpai di beberapa gerai toko, termasuk di ITC Roxy Mas, Jakarta.

Langkanya Samsung Galaxy SII tersebut diamini oleh beberapa penjual yang kami temui di ITC Roxy Mas. Menurut penuturan Ria, salah seorang SPG Samsung, kelangkaan ini sudah terjadi semenjak seminggu terakhir. Imbas dari langkanya Galaxy SII dipasaran tentu lah membuat konsumen yang ingin memilikinya sedikit kecewa. Bahkan, kalau pun didapatkan harganya lebih mahal dibandingkan harga pasaran yang ada.

Beberapa konsumen yang diwawancarai PULSAonline mengungkapkan rasa kekecewaannya, karena tak mendapatkan perangkat ini. Sebut saja Reno, dimana telah sekian lama menabung untuk membeli gadget canggih ini,namun ternyata tidak ready stock.

Ketika ditanya perihal alasannya ingin membeli Galaxy S II, jawabnya adalah Samsung Galaxy S II dinilai memiliki fitur sangat mumpuni dibanding ponsel Android lain. Dan, untuk purna jual dinilai bakal tetap tinggi.Selain itu faktor desain yang slim juga menjadi alasan memilih smartphone ini.

Menariknya, dari sekian banyak toko yang ada di ITC Roxy Mas, hanya ada satu toko yang menjualnya. Dan, itu pun stocknya hanya tinggal 1 unit saja. “Stoknya Samsung Galaxy S II sekarang mulai langka mas,” ungkap penjaga konter tersebut. Seperti yang sudah diungkapkan di awal, imbas kelangkaan ini tentu ah harga yang jadi meroket. Untuk menebus Galaxy S II harus merogoh Rp 5.350.000. Padahal harga pasaran sebelumnya cuma Rp 5.150.000,-.

Melihat fenomena itu, banyak spekulasi adanya strategi marketing dari pihak Samsung Indonesia terkait kelangkaan Galaxy S II. Namun, bisa jadi langkah ini diambil untuk mendongkrak penjualan produk lain seperti Galaxy Nexus, yang dari kabar yang beredar di pasar kurang diminati konsumen. Padahal dari sisi OS, Galaxy Nexus sudah mengusung Android terbaru, Ice Cream Sandwich. Untuk hal ini, sayang PULSAonline belum mendapatkan konfirmasi langsung dari pihak Samsung Indonesia.

LG Connect 4G Review

 

 

LG Connect 4G is MetroPC’s flagship phone and the launch of Connect 4G comes soon after LG Esteem. Though the phone is a bit expensive and does not give the same speeds as you will find in other LTE networks, yet the phone has plenty to offer. LG Connect 4G Design and Looks

When we first looked at LG Connect 4G, we felt that the phone has been designed for those who thought that LG Esteem was just too big. As far as smartphones are concerned, Connect 4G feels just right. At dimensions standing at 4.6×2.5×0.5 inches, the phone should fit into most pockets quite perfectly. The front is dominated by a glossy 4 inch touch screen and the top half of the phone is surrounded by a thick glossy plastic. The phone feels like a quality device and weighs 137 grams. The phone is lighter than LG Esteem which weighs 172 grams. Overall we were quite impressed by the looks and design of LG Connect 4G.

LG Connect 4G Screen

The phone displays a 4 inch NOVA display whose resolution is very low (480×320 pixels). But we liked the fact that the display is protected by Gorilla glass. The screen delivered vivid colors but we witnessed that the colors faded when we tilted the screen beyond 45 degrees. The screen uses IPS LCD technology similar to that of iPhone 4S. LG says that the phone is capable of displaying 700 nits of brightness, while iPhone’s display measured 541 nits. Sunlight legibility of the phone is quite good and we did not face much problems in reading the screen contents in bright sunlight.

LG Connect 4G Keyboard

LG Connect 4G for metro PCs come with a couple of virtual keyboards. We were quite impressed by the large white keys and their spacing in portrait and landscape mode. The keyboard also has the ability to access particular characters by extended pressing of a button. The phone is also equipped with a Swype keyboard which helps us for speedy texting and emailing.

LG Connect 4G runs on Android 2.3.6(Gingerbread). The lockscreen features a large digital clock with date shown below it. There is a large notification window which shows missed calls and messages. While we swiped the lock screen, then we got access to 7 customizable home screens. The apps page features four columns which are divided into a couple of sections.

LG Connect 4G Camera Quality

The phone is equipped with a 5MP auto-focus camera with LED flash. The shutter speed was quick and the photos looked quite good. Both colors and details were decent and the camera should work fine while capturing quick pictures. The pictures captured offered good amount of details and brightness levels were also good. The camera quality of Connect 4G is quite decent. There is also a secondary VGA camera for video chat. During Skype video talk over 4G LTE, our callers complained about slightly grainy image with loud audio.

LG Connect 4G Video Quality

The camera of Connect 4G is also capable of recording 720p videos at a smooth 30fps per second both indoors and outdoors. The details of the videos however looked a bit smudged. Though we did not notice any white haze, yet there was a fair amount of graininess.

LG Connect 4G Multimedia

One gets a microSD card slot beneath the battery cover and the phone was able to play back music test files. The sound quality was also fine, though the performance of the speakers was not great. All the test videos played were quite good.

LG Connect 4G Call Quality

In order to test the call quality, we made few calls to landline and cell phones. We observed that landline calls were better than calls made to cell phones. While some of the callers reported a bit of echo, other reported loud and clear audio without any distortion.

LG Connect 4G Battery Life

In our laptop battery test, the battery of LG Connect 4G lasted for approximately 4 hours which is an hour below than an average Android phone.

LG Connect 4G Price

Price of LG Connect 4G is approximately $350 which is a bit steep.

LG Connect 4G offers great 4G LTE speed and overall the performance of the phone is quite good. If you are looking for a phone with no-contract route, then Connect 4G is a good deal.

Sony Umumkan Xperia neo L

Sony Mobile kembali mengumumkan line-up terbaru smartphone Android miliknya. Perangkat bernama Xperia neo L itu merupakan smartphone segmen menengah seperti ‘saudaranya’ neo V. Hanya saja Xperia neo L tampaknya akan disuguhkan untuk pasar di wilayah Cina.

Windows Phone Marketplace hits 13 new countries

Microsoft announced that it has made the Windows Phone Marketplace available in 13 more countries. The company kept the promise it made last month at the MWC and added Bulgaria, Costa Rica, Croatia, Estonia, Iceland, Latvia, Lithuania, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Turkey, Ukraine, and Venezuela to the list of countries supported by the official WP app repository.

With Argentina, China, Indonesia, Malaysia, Peru, and the Philippines joining the party earlier this year, this brings the WP Marketplace expansion counter for 2012 to 19 and the total availability to 54 countries.

The next wave of the Marketplace rollout will come later this year and will include UAE, Bahrain, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kazakhstan, Israel, Thailand, and Vietnam. There's no exact frame for it yet, but we should get more info about it in the coming weeks.

Microsoft is obviously gearing up for a rapid expansion of its platform, but so far the sales of its hardware have been largely underwhelming. Here's hoping that the upcoming Apollo update turns the smartphone market into the three-horse race that the company has been constantly talking about.

HTC One X, S, V launch in Europe, Asia on Monday

The hotly anticipated HTC One trio is just about to hit the shelves. The HTC One X and One S flagship devices and the HTC One V mid-ranger will be available across Europe and in some parts of Asia starting Monday, April 2.

Customers in just about every major European market, from Austria to the UK will get a chance to lay their hands on a shiny new HTC One smartphone come Monday. Off-contract prices starts from €599 for the One X, €499 for the One S and €299 for the One V.

It's unclear what Asian markets will get the HTC trio on launch day, but Singapore and Taiwan have already been confirmed.

If you don't have that much cash to spend on a new smartphone right now, you m want to wait for the carriers to start offering the One trio with contracts - some of them will make even the One X flagship free. These contracts are expected later this month, so if you don't mind signing a contract you might want to wait a bit.

The phone looks quite a lot like BlackBerry Torch 9860, thanks to the metal bezel on its top. The rear rubber panel of the phone helps us to easily grip the phone. Overall, the device is a solid one and is quite easy to operate.
